Head of Engineering

Tilig is looking for a talented and ambitious Head of Engineering who is passionate about developing a high-quality and scalable consumer software product. This individual has managed mobile and web application development in the past and is excited about managing a high-growth engineering team.

The Head of Engineering will be responsible for maintaining high engineering standards amongst our fully remote team and will manage all aspects of the engineering and product release process including Frontend and Backend Development, QA, and DevOps. The Head of Engineering will play a crucial role in setting our technology roadmap and will have the responsibility to hire, scale and build out the engineering organization as they see fit.

๐Ÿ‘€ Weโ€™re looking for:

  • 7+ years engineering experience
  • Strong management and engineering leadership experience in a fast-growing startup environment or startup paced team within a larger organization
  • Expertise in best coding practices, latest standards, and full-stack architecture complexities including managing a complex multi-platform stack and balancing speed vs quality
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills to manage and motivate the engineering team
  • Prior experience scaling an engineering organization including hiring developers, QA, DevOps, and system architects
  • Prior experience managing mobile SaaS applications with high transaction volume; security, financial sector/credit card systems experience is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Prior experience or affinity with our stack: Ruby, GCP or other cloud providers, Firebase, Kotlin (Android), Swift (iOS and/or macOS), Vue.js or other modern SPA frameworks, Typescript
  • Prior experience with publishing multi-platform browser extensions (e.g. Firefox and Chrome-derivatives, (mobile) Safari) is a plus)
  • Strong feeling of responsibility for the quality of created code and resulting applications, especially in the areas of privacy and security of end-users

  • You know how to create and foster an engineering culture that values quality, security, ease of use, speed, and a bit of fun
  • You have hands-on experience with encryption and/or security
  • You have experience with multi-platform native apps
  • Know how to create a quality and security mindset within an engineering team
  • Are interested in hiring, mentoring and management
  • Are able to make the right demands of engineers in concordance with their abilities and experience and guide them in their development
  • Understand the need for documentation, protocols and policies
  • Have experience doing formal performance reviews. Like really formal. With a power point presentation that contains lots of bullet points
  • You are okay with our CEO and Head of Security being engineers who will spot bugs in the code your team delivers, and making you personally responsible for it. ;)
  • Youโ€™re familiar with remote work (or excited to try it!)

  • Hire, manage, and grow a high performing engineering organization including front-end/back-end developers, mobile developers, DevOps engineers, and QA teams
  • Work closely with our Head of Security to build the long-term engineering roadmap, manage product sprints/releases, and optimize the product
  • Evaluate diagnostic/analytics tools like Sentry, Firebase, GitLab, Mixpanel, our Kubernetes stack, etc. to improve product release process, prioritize tasks including new features, bug fixes, architectural updates, and quality assurance
  • Build a culture of quality from the ground up and proactively ensure the entire engineering organization prioritizes QA throughout the development and release process
  • Make our engineering team work smoothly
